It has come to our attention that the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a Medical Device Alert regarding a patient death caused by a failure to decontaminate a laryngoscope handle.
This alert applies to all laryngoscope handles produced by all manufacturers. MHRA suggests healthcare professionals to review, and if necessary update, local procedures to ensure that reusable laryngoscope handles are decontaminated appropriately between each patient use, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
